

The legend began in Richmond in 1911 when Albert Octavius Dutton began creating coachwork for vehicles such as Rolls-Royce, Hispano, Isotta Franchini and others.
Forging a reputation as the most exacting motor repairers of luxury vehicles in the 1950's, Dutton was the official factory repairer for Porsche, a love affair with the marque continues to this day. As the Dutton reputation grew, so did the family's involvement with other prestige marques - Lancia, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Maserati. In the 1970's Dutton took on the Citroën franchise with the highest Victorian sales results that manufacturer had ever experienced. In more recent times, Dutton have been associated with Lotus, Aston Martin, TVR and Lamborghini.
Currently, Dutton Sporting Cars are nationally and internationally known as stockists of late model prestige automobiles, particularly the marques of Porsche, Ferrari and Maserati.
Today they are renowned for their continued pure passion for motoring, exemplified through the Dutton Grand Prix Rally, Australia's most popular and successful touring road event. Dutton celebrated a decade as naming sponsor of this Grand Prix event and in 2007 Dutton also celebrates with pride 96 years in the motoring industry.
Jeff Dutton, known in Australia as the doyen of rare and collectable sports cars was apprenticed in the Dutton family mechanical workshop where his appreciation for exotic vehicles developed. His expertise became well recognized becoming a consultant to Sotheby's, a valuer for the Victorian Museum, and his advice is constantly sought from car enthusiasts all over Australia.
Jeff's unique reputation in motor vehicle retailing is shared with son James who has managed and marketed the Dutton business and also participated in motoring events achieving excellent motor racing results over the years, including the Porsche Carrera Cup Series. James has now developed the only Australian luxury website, duttondirect.com, cataloguing luxury properties, automobiles, marine, aviation and lifestyle products. Jeff's daughter Simone, a graphic designer, works on all the Dutton projects as well as running her own business. Jeff's wife Gay is an established motor sport artist with paintings in many private collections of motor enthusiasts throughout Australia and overseas.
The Dutton family passion for design and presentation combine to create retail environments like the Dutton showroom renowned for great style and the introduction of a cafe in a retail premises, a radical innovation in the early 1990's.
